We are a law firm with over 32 years
experience in the practice of matrimonial and family law. We
advise our clients on the fullest extent needed to settle,
negotiate, resolve or litigate their matrimonial and family
law issues.
Divorce and Financial
Support
New Jersey is a “no fault” divorce
state. If one spouse wants to terminate the marriage, the
other spouse cannot prevent him or her from doing so. It
also means that when a Judge decides the underlying issues,
his or her determination will not be based on who s/he
believes to have caused the break-up. In other words, a New
Jersey Judge will not consider issues such as infidelity or
undesirable behavior in the final judgment. This also means
that absent certain exceptions, the marital estate, or the
property that has been purchased, accumulated or improved
during the marriage, will be divided fairly and “equitably”,
irrespective of fault. The New Jersey Judge will decide what
alimony, child support and property distribution is fair and
equitable between the parties. It is our obligation as an
experienced family law firm to represent our clients in a
way which is so thorough that we do not miss a penny of
contribution made by our clients to a marriage for which she
or he must be recognized in the property distribution at the
end of the marriage.
Asset and Wealth
Identification and Valuation
Divorce cases involving
substantial assets or complex estates require specialized
knowledge. Through the discovery process, we are skilled at
identifying and valuing assets and wealth, including real
estate, securities, business interests, retirement funds,
pension plans, tax shelters (domestic and foreign), overseas
accounts, stock options, trusts and other actual or
potential sources of wealth.
Negotiation and
Litigation
Resolving matrimonial disputes requires patient, persistent
negotiation. But to be most effective, negotiation must be
balanced by the skills and resources to litigate at the
highest levels. We are experienced litigators; precisely
the experience that allows us to avoid litigation when
possible, and to prevail in court when necessary. We also
have extensive experience negotiating and drafting
pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements to provide our
clients with reliable, long-term security.
Child Custody
Securing the stability and support
of children whose parents are involved in matrimonial or
paternity disputes requires both skill and compassion. As a
former member of the English Children Law Panel, Sterling Rauf,
Esquire is well experienced at resolving children related
issues efficiently, keeping both the children’s and the
client’s best interests at the forefront.
Individualized Attention
Matrimonial and family law cases
are, by their nature, highly personal affairs. We have built
our reputation one client at a time, and that individualized
focus remains the core of our practice. Every client’s
situation is unique and requires a unique strategy.
A Network of
Professionals
With over 32 years in the legal profession in both the
United States and England, we are connected to a broad
network of professionals and professional resources, which
enables our clients to access specialized expertise and
professional support to meet their needs beyond legal
representation.
